Ruth
Okay, I have now worked part of the hair which is framing the face and this will be crucial to see how it affects the lighting on her face. Then I will work on the background and her mauve dress ( this is why she has this colouring in her cheeks and when I advance a bit more I will post that, so that you can see the progress until I have it completed.

It's looking good. It's very interesting to see how a portrait develops.
Do you really think so? Thanks Robert
I know you have taken photos for the purpose of posting them here, but is that something you do anyway, i.e. do you keep photographic records of your other paintings as they go through the stages of development?
I have photographed unfinished paintings in the past but not step by step as I'm doing now. I write notes of the colours I have mixed to create certain effects in a notebook, so that years later I can consult exactly how I have done it. Saving me time as the permutation for colour mixing can be time consuming.
It's fascinating to see how this is gradually evoloving, Maria.
Really? It was my brother Alberto's idea to put up the progress of the painting as it evolves. He said he would like to see it. I'm glad you think it is a good idea. I wasn't too sure at first. I thought it would be like a magician explaining his tricks before the show.
Well, isn't there a lot from Leonardo about the technique of painting? But that doesn'r detract from appreciation of his work.
Not about his technique, he gives a lot of advice about how you have to draw from life by exploring corpses to understand how the muscles and bones are before you draw. Leonardo never explained what technique he used on his failed fresco of 'The Last Supper'
I like it, Maria. It's a lovely portrait. I'm not surprised you're in demand.
Thank you Robert !
When Ruth saw her portrait she said she was blown away by it. Then my neighbour told her husband Hugh that he had seen the portrait and that it was going to cost him a thousand pounds!but he later confessed to Hugh that he was joking, ha,ha,ha.
Maria, you could get more than a thousand if you left the canvas blank.
Ha,ha,ha,ha.
